European Life I Live 2012

The Hague as European Cultural Capital for a day

Saturday, 8 September 2012 marks the start of a brand new international festival in The Hague. The European Life I Live celebrates the richness and diversity of European culture.

As part of the city’s bid to become the European cultural capital in 2018, the free festival treats visitors to a day of top international entertainment. Set on the historic Lange Voorhout, this event takes festival-goers on an exciting journey exploring the sights, sounds and tastes of Europe.

Two stages, one thought

Some of Europe and the world’s foremost contemporary artists perform a series of engaging concerts celebrating the diversity of European musical culture. Live shows take place on two outdoor stages, the Pop/Jazz podium and the Classical/Jazz  podium.

  • multi-talented Malterse percussionist Renzo Spiteri
  • the Flemish cabaret ensemble Yevgueni

Culinary delights

In addition to a bursting cultural programme, young and promising trainee chefs from the kitchen of Jamie Oliver’s restaurant Fifteen ensure that a variety of European culinary traditions are represented.

Cultural debate

On Saturday, 8 September, a debate on ‘Culture as the Catalyst of the Economy’ takes place at Bodega De Posthoorn, while the ‘deZoep Creative Bar’ connects people of European descent and facilitates a collective work of art, based on the message that ‘creativity has no borders’.
