Cyprus Cabinet Ministers to Face Massive Reshuffling

The president of Cyprus is embarking on a massive reshuffling among his cabinet. The decision came about when two ministers belonging to the coalition DIKO handed in their resignation letter.

The resignation letters were from Commerce Minister Antonis Paschalides and Health Minister Christos Patsalides.

Government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou has  issued a statement condemning the ethics of letting President Demetris Christofias hear through the media that the two ministers had been told to hand in their resignations.

“Before announcing steps it would be ethical to be briefed first. It’s not right to hear it from the media,” he said.

Ministers have been under extreme pressure when an explosive ammunition killed about 13 people two weeks ago. Many Cypriots have accused the cabinet to have done very little to prevent the attack. Now, the government is under pressure to do a reshuffle and name its new ministers as well as specifying their functions

Other Cypriots are complaining that the countries tax collection is delayed. The president of the central bank has called for a swift action to avoid bailout.

. Some say this act is a beginning of an end to come, while others claim the reshuffling was bound to happen, with or without the Vassiliko incident.
